Espacio intermedio (2020)

Espacio intermedio es una investigación artística sobre el espacio periférico de la ciudad de Castellón, más concretamente el campo de estudio se sitúa en los descampados y solares que se encuentran entre la ronda de circunvalación y la propia ciudad, espacio que le dan título al proyecto. Estos lugares son entendidos como contenedores de memoria de la identidad que se encuentran a una espera especulativa, lugares donde se condensa su pasado agrícola enfrentando con un futuro urbano, lugares de gran presión urbanista donde el elevado valor del suelo impide cualquier otro tipo de uso.
Son espacios de extraña naturaleza que quedan al margen de la representación oficial de la ciudad, y que a su vez incomodan tanto a la administración como al ciudadano. Nuestro principal objetivo es dotarles de una nueva representación, crear un mapa donde redefinir y conceptualizar su naturaleza por medio de estudios e investigaciones sobre teorías de paisaje, urbanismo y práctica artística. Además se ha completado con estudios específicos sobre estos lugares adjuntados en la elaboración del nuevo plan urbanístico.
Transitar y reconocer el lugar es uno de los objetivos principales realizados por medio de largas jornadas de trabajo de campo utilizando la fotografía como medio de documentación del lugar. Con la intención de documentar el propio acto de transitar, se han grabado los recorridos vía GPS con el fin de crear un dibujo sobre el plano del lugar. Con todo este material la finalidad es crear este nuevo mapa de apariencia oficial que se acompaña por imágenes del trabajo de campo y citas de estos textos estudiados.
Todo el material de investigación y las imágenes y planos realizados serán presentados bajo un display expositivo que traviesa la sala y que funciona a nivel propagandístico de aquello que esconde la ciudad, que está detrás de las vallas publicitarias que funcionan a modo de hito apuntando la calificación del suelo. Se presenta como acumulación desmesurada de información de la misma forma que se nos presenta en los lugares, con la intención de aproximar la experiencia de transitarlos y con ello y de forma metafórica rehabitarlos.
Intermediate space is an artistic investigation on the peripheral space of the city of Castellón, more specifically the field of study is located in the open fields and lots that are between the ring road and the city itself, a space that gives the project its title. These places are understood as containers for the memory of identity that are a speculative wait, places where their agricultural past is condensed facing an urban future, places of great urban pressure where the high value of the land prevents any other type of use.
They are spaces of a strange nature that remain outside the official representation of the city, and that in turn bother both the administration and the citizen. Our main objective is to provide them with a new representation, create a map to redefine and conceptualize their nature through studies and research on landscape theories, urbanism and artistic practice. In addition, it has been completed with specific studies on these places attached to the development of the new urban plan.
Walking through and recognizing the place is one of the main objectives achieved through long days of field work using photography as a means of documenting the place. With the intention of documenting the act of transit itself, the routes have been recorded via GPS in order to create a drawing on the map of the place. With all this material, the purpose is to create this new map with an official appearance that is accompanied by images of the field work and quotes from these studied texts.
All the research material and the images and plans made will be presented under an exhibition display that crosses the room and that works at the propaganda level of what the city hides, which is behind the billboards that work as a landmark pointing out the qualification. ground. It is presented as an excessive accumulation of information in the same way that it is presented to us in places, with the intention of approximating the experience of walking through them and with it, and metaphorically, re-inhabiting them.
